Joan Polishook

Hello, I’m Joan Polishook. Welcome to my website where I can share with you a little bit about myself and my art. My interest in painting began during my early student days and continued through college where I received a BA in Art from CCNY. From my first brush strokes to those current, art plays an important role in my life.

I have worked in many different mediums, oil being the present favorite. My paintings are impressionistic interpretations that reflect my love for nature. I am a plein air artist whose work includes scenes of the rural countryside with an emphasis upon old barns, wooded sites, rolling hills, fields and water.

Perhaps you will recognize some of the locations that inspire me as I enjoy painting in the outdoors while communing with nature.

I belong to several art organizations and have reached out as a supporter of the arts in the communities around me. My work is on permanent display at Grey Towers NHS in Milford and the Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary in White Mills both in Pennsylvania. Many of my paintings have found homes in private and corporate collections here in the U.S. and abroad. I show regularly in organizational exhibits and gallery shows in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Proudly, I have been the recipient of numerous awards.

Recently, memoir writing has entered the picture. I have had two books, The House on the Sixth Floor and Bouquet published. Both can be ordered from Lulu.Com. The books recall the early life experiences growing up in the Bronx, New York, that shaped me as a person and influenced me as an artist. Soon there will be a third book ( to be available from this website), this time of sketches taken from my journals, and enhanced with selected works of original poetry and prose.
